“Strange.” “Unsettling.” “Unusual.” “Peculiar.”
These are but a few of the words clanmates choose to describe the sparkling, goat-eyed wizard Ayhan, son of the great scholars Comet and Ariel. Ayhan, like his parents, has an insatiable thirst for knowledge. His curiosity quickly became focused on mastery of the arcane arts. With time, Ayhan grew into a formidable mage, renowned in the Southern Icefields War for his magical skills. However, he was also well-known among his clanmates for his odd antics. More than one scout was frightened by the Pearlcatcher’s sudden appearance directly behind them while out on a mission. When questioned, he’d mutter something under his breath about arcane energy fields and magical resonances before skulking away as mysteriously as he arrived. Ayhan also has a habit of speaking in strange, archaic phrases; only a handful of clanmates could decipher his speech at any given time. Further, some dragons identified a conspiratorial streak in Ayhan’s thinking. Even his mother worried about how much Ayhan obsessed about his theory of magical laylines running through Sornieth connecting the dragon world’s magical energies together. He was equally convinced that the War might somehow damage or weaken these lines if combatants became careless with their arcane warfare. Ayhan was valued as an important component of his clan’s wartime strategy and defensive lines despite these quirks. Some clanmates were therefore surprised when the Pearlcatcher suddenly left his home one day without a word of goodbye to anyone. Those closest to him had anticipated this decision for months. Ayhan had been talking more and more about weakening laylines, but was frustrated by his stalled research in the Southern Icefields. His parents were even proud when he packed up and moved to a new clan in order to pursue his odd research agenda. |
