Biography
- His origins would be similar to Doll's in that his spirit was once an aspect of the Shade. Rather than being trapped in a vessel by others, he was forced into dormancy and locked away in the recesses of the Aethers' ship. During their crash landing, the runes that held his cage shattered. Newly awakened, fearful and confused, he latched onto the first organic thing he could find. Nox fused with an egg that had fallen to rot, all life within it lost. But in combining with this egg, a new life was created. That day a Shade born dragon was hatched.
- Unlike his sister, he retains his memories from before. Given that his previous violence against dragons was a result of the will of the Shade, he has no ideals against dragonkind. He can still feel the Shade's will, weak and barely a whisper at the edges of his mind, but it is not strong enough to exert any control over him. He's curious about the world and creatures around him now that he has a true will and a physical body. Slowly and with time, he may just come to feel like the dragon he was born and raised to be, strange though his behaviour may be at times to those who took him in as a hatchling.
- Interestingly, having memories has in some ways put him at more of a disadvantage compared with his sister when it comes to integrating into dragon society. Doll believes she was one all along and simply needs to relearn what she already knew, while he has knowledge of what he is, along with the lifetime of behaviour and belief that came with it. Doll's feeling of otherness comes from her lack of memories and the unknown, whereas his comes from knowing that he is in fact 'other.'
- He has not informed Doll of their origins. He is unable to communicate using the hivemind those born of the Shade shared previously because of their current separate physical bodies. He can feel a thread of connection to her if he seeks it out, and understands this to mean that they are similar in some way, but he does not trust her, and so has not interacted with her yet, uncertain how to do so outside of a single minded and shared violence.
