Biography

Rastaban’s Logbook wrote:
Another cold snap today. Several of us were confused, this far north and this late in the year? Although, that was not the pinnacle of today’s events…
“I hope this clears up soon,” said Quorra in her typical monotone voice. She’d been lamenting about the weather all day, and the clan had been sharing her grief, albeit to a lesser extent. The skies had been choked with dense, freezing mist since at least the morning. A thin layer of frost had begun coating the rocks outside. Quorra curled up in the small amber nest she had built into the walls of the chamber. Noticing Quorra was still shivering, Hyades walked over and created a small flame just below the nest. She went back and continued talking with her sister, Pleiades. Sequoia continued looking over the clan’s wishlist scroll, looking both delighted and a bit sad at how small it was.
At that moment, Eridanus bursted into the room,
“Guys! I found a spring while I was digging!” At first, he was met with confused expressions. He then added, “you know, a water spring?” Sequoia picked up on this immediately,
“Oh, that must have been fun for you,” he said with a smirk. Eridanus scoffed. Pleiades looked at Eridanus with curious eyes,
“Where is it?” She asked. The Ridgeback soon led them down into the cave he had been digging, stopping abruptly at the entrance where, at the bottom, a deep pool of water sat. Eridanus looked concerned.
“That’s… that’s a lot more than when I first found it.”
“Well, that water was probably under pressure before you released it,” Pleiades explained, “naturally, it’s going to rise until- wait, did something move in there?”
The waters were frigid and toiling. I’m not going to last long out here. She looked through the dim water for any sign of refuge. The sea and the sky clearly weren’t going to cooperate. Her glowing eyes scanned for anything, but found nothing. So, she closed her eyes, and started looking for what she couldn’t see. She reached out, looking for any signs.
There. There was a freshwater spring inside one of the mountains nearby. It was completely closed off, so she’d have to use her magic to get herself a path there. But now that she had found a place of shelter, she knew she would be safe. She made her way quickly through the icy water, to the base of the mountain, and began focusing her energy. Bubbles soon appeared in the rock, the sediment being worn away bit by bit. It was long and arduous, but eventually she managed to drive a channel vertically into the spring. At that moment, she decided to rest.
Voices. She woke up hearing voices and was surprised to sense light coming through the water and hitting her eyelids. She forced herself not to open her eyes as she knew it would give herself away. So she waited until the voices were gone. Then, she opened her eyes, and immediately regretted it.
Sequoia stared at the two glowing dots that had suddenly appeared in the pool. He looked closer and saw a dark mass in the water. Then he realized, There’s a dragon in the water! He whirled around and called,
“Guys! Come back, there’s a dragon in the water here!” He looked back in the pool and saw the shape moving, escaping further down into the depths of the water. Pleiades and Hyades were the first to return, and they quickly noticed the absence of a dragon in the water.
“What happened?” Pleiades asked, her blue eyes watching inquisitively.
“It went down further into the spring,” Sequoia explained, “it must go down into the ocean.” Pleiades’ eyes widened, and she said “that must mean it was a Water dragon!” Realizing what this meant, the trio headed outside and down from the upper part of the mountain to the beach, just in time to see a large shape emerge from the water.
How could I have been so stupid? Now where am I going to find shelter? She scolded herself as she broke the surface and began to fly off. But as she did, she heard a voice coming from behind her.
“Wait!” Wait? What did this dragon want? She partially didn’t want to know, but at the same time, “wait” didn’t sound threatening. She whirled around and hovered, looking through this mist. She saw three shapes down below her, and slowly descended down to their level, and hovered once more in case she needed to escape. The dragons she now saw clearly were taken aback by her appearance, but the largest one called out to her,
“What were you doing in there?”
“I was just trying to wait out this weather,” she responded, “I’m sorry for intruding-“
“Intruding?” One of the smaller dragons said with a laugh, “you weren’t intruding at all! Although showing up uninvited probably wasn’t the best way of getting into our lair.” The small dragon that has spoken then bounded up to her. She recognized the breed.
“You’re one of the Arcanist’s first children…” she began, “and yet you have the eyes of a Water dragon?”
“It’s a funny story,” the small dragon explained, “my name is Pleiades, what’s your name?”
“Name? Oh, I- I don’t have one,” she said with a frown.
“Well, you’re free to stay here if you need to, but we should find a name for you,” said Pleiades. At that moment, light finally broke through the clouds and shined directly onto her wings. It seemed as if the light had kissed her wingtips, leaving behind a mark of its presence. The other dragons stared in awe at the sight.
“What about Waveshine?” The large dragon suggested.
“Waveshine…” she pondered, “I like that, thank you.”

Waveshine has little memory of where she had grown up. She mostly remembers wandering the ocean floor, exploring and investigating anything she could find. She says she used to be a brighter blue, but spent so much time on the seabed that the sediment and lack of light had dulled her colors. Waveshine is quite adept in Water magic, although she uses it infrequently. She has no memory of how she got her glowing eyes, but believes it was a useful adaptation given her time spent on the sea floor.

Waveshine is seen as inoffensive by her clanmates. She wants to learn more about the other Ancients in the lair, having not been able to hear their stories in her years of isolation. She speaks friendly and formally, and is often quite respectful of others.
Quotes(locations in bullets):
“I don’t think it’s the collecting aspect that I like most, it’s finding these objects that I like. See, there was never anything interesting on the ocean floor wherever I went. Anything that didn’t look like it belonged there was something new for me to discover, and that’s what I enjoyed... It’s something that makes me really happy that I’ve found the clan I have. There’s so many new things! And not just things, the dragons too!"
