Kiki

Kiki is staring at the ocean once again. Her parents have strictly forbidden her to swim, but the water is calling to her. One day, one day she’ll be brave enough to just jump in and go for a nice relaxing swim. Kiki can almost feel the water flow through her fur, even if she has never felt it before. She sighs. One day…

But then, a hatchling runs past her, directly into the waves. Kiki watches it splash around for a while, until suddenly, the little dragon is gone. Kiki tries to find it again, and sees a small paw sticking up from further into the water, grasping for something to hold on to. The waves must have dragged the hatchling back to sea! In that split second, Kiki is braver than she has ever been before, and she jumps into the water to swim after the young dragon. As she swims deeper and deeper into the ocean, it feels all kinds of magical, just like she imagined it to be. But in her sense of urgency, she doesn’t notice the water all around her lighting up in a bright blue. She swims further and further, leaving a trail of shining water behind her. It attracts quite the crowd, including her parents, who look horrified at their daughter’s rescue efforts.

Kiki locates the hatchling quickly, however, and she grabs it and pulls it up. As the hatchling gasps for air, Kiki can suddenly feel something surging through her. A particularly big wave washes over the two of them, and Kiki and the hatchling watch as images for in the water. Kiki sees herself using elaborate water magic, but it is a memory she doesn’t remember having. The hatchling watches in awe, completely forgetting the dire situation both of them are in. The two of them watch memory after memory, before they both watch as Kiki’s parents use magic to make her forget just how powerful her connection to the water really is. And after that last memory, the waves feel less aggressive. The water brings both Kiki and the hatchling back to shore.

Kiki can only stare at her parents, not knowing what to do next.
