Biography

A fragile dragon, Scarhide's skin is incredibly thin and fragile, their red coloration being due to the muscle underneath, with thicker segments forming their smoky markings. The patterning darkens and lightens their skin, although at the end of the day, their body is seethrough.

Scarhide was born weak and fragile, with thin skin and easily broken. The defect worried their parents, afraid their thin skin would lead to them dying an early death from injuries that should've been healable, especially since they were born in the Bramble. Their parents took them to a Plague doctor, in hopes that their unconventional methods could thicken their skin and prevent them from being sliced open by the thorns.
...Of course, the doctor had already given up on the child. They figured their thin skin was proof that they were never destined to survive, and although they took them in happily, saying they would have to stay with them for "intensive care", they had other plans; setting to test all sort of virulent contagions on the child. Some did work; the grey patches along their body were the result of one of the contagions, thicker puffed skin that hasn't ever settled down. But most of the doctor's treatments were centered on one thing and one thing alone: Research. They didn't care which contagion killed the child, they simply cared to figure out their effects, and would put the child through illness after illness like a test animal.
The experiments, though, left them far stronger than they used to be; and one day, they finally mustered up the mental strength to fight back against their wicked doctor and escape.
Their skin still breaks, but their muscle is too strong to be broken apart. They had to wander, trying to find somewhere far enough away so they never had to think about the things they'd been through again.
They were found trying to reach the depths of the Sea of a Thousand Currents; failing miserably, being a child of shadow, but still trying, in hopes that the depths would shield them forever.
Instead, they were picked up by the clan, and truly ARE shielded away, knowing that anyone who would want to hurt them will be barred from entry.

  • Scarhide has an aversion to Plague due to their history with it. They do their best not to let it fully interfere, but they still get on edge reguardless.
  • Scrapscuttle is a peculiar little creature that showed up one Night of the Nocturne. It seems to like Scarhide, and won't leave, even when Scarhide is super unnerved by it....
