Spectre

Most mirrors who found themselves stranded on a moving island would have bolted to the nearest pack of mirrors as soon as possible, and immediately tried to forget about the experience. Indeed, if you had asked Spectre what they would think of being in the sky back when they lived in a normal mirror pack, they would have thought you crazy and foolish for entertaining such far-fetched hypotheticals, and avoided you for the rest of your close proximity.
But after an injury left them stranded and one of the dancing imperials happened to pick them up, they- well they still hated being so far in the sky. Despite how large the land on _____ was, they felt cramped, and despite how far the giant manta ray moved in one day, they still felt confined and as if they needed to migrate somewhere immediately. Indeed, it was during some frantic roaming trying to itch this urge despite how much it hurt to put their weight on their injured leg that they discovered the tunnel into Irnra's lair.
Later, she would be horrified at how unguarded such an important being was: at how easy it would have been for her to kill the guardian, even if she hadn't actually been inclined to do such a thing. But the fact of the matter was, she stumbled into Irnra's lair, and she never left.
She had seen guardians before, but never one that was sleeping like this. The magic in the air was tangible and weighed on her heavily, somehow comforting in it's weight, and somehow she didn't feel cramped anymore despite the tight fit. For the first time in weeks, she willingly stilled and stared at this foreign dragon peacefully slumbering before her.
She had no idea how long she stood there, staring at her with all four eyes focused intently, before the guardian sleepily blinked open one eye and stared back.
When the earth dragon spoke it was a gentle low rumble that somehow felt like coming home, despite her never having experienced the feeling before.
"Hello, little one. What brings you here, so close to the heart?"
Spectre shifted uncomfortably, before replying "I was simply exploring, and no one stopped me."
"Hmm. Well, if you bear no ill will, there is no reason you can't stay here as long as you wish."
Spectre stared aghast as the guardian simply went back to sleep, speaking no other words.
When she finally left the burrow, it was only to hunt for double her usual catch in the sea below and haul it back to the sleeping guardian. She had felt so inclined to leave only moments before, but now she felt settled. This was her purpose now. To care for and speak to this guardian in ways she never had before. Though Irnra was only awake for a few hours each day, they slowly bonded more and more, until they were unseperable- constant shadows of one another. And as Irnra was bound to _____, so was she.
Sometimes she did miss the pack. The constant burn of her muscles as they ran across the land, the camaraderie that came only from being another nameless face in a collective. The constant fight and satiation of hunger.
But she belonged here now. She would even daresay that Irnra was her platonic soulmate, her forever match. And she may not be the guardian of the two of them, but she would make sure nothing ever endangered that.
