Mardikan’s battlemates are often shocked to hear that he is descended from Mystra the rogue, given his flashy battle style and constant need for attention. Most of Mystra’s other children inherited her quiet demeanor alongside their father’s magical talent. Not Mardikan. The starry Spiral does not know the meaning of “subtlety.” It is little wonder that his spellcasting repertoire features booming thunderblasts, crashing meteors, and towering walls of crackling fire. Mardikan always makes his presence known.

When asked about the source of his magical ability, Mardikan proudly boasts of the years of training he received in the arcane arts from his father, Arseni. He visibly cringes, however, when clanmates remind him that he also developed his skills through childhood mischief. Mardikan – like his mother – was lithe and agile from the moment he hatched. As such, each spell he learnt would immediately be tested in the most loud and disruptive way he could imagine. Here, his creativity was a curse to his clan rather than a boon.

His youthful antics nearly made his poor mother tear out her tailfeathers with frustration. It was thus a relief to all concerned when Mardikan began directing his energy (mostly) towards wartime tactics and techniques over tricks and mischief.

The circumstances under which Mardikan moved to the city of Brightwinter are not something he is willing to discuss, although his early days have been filled with a flurry of activity as he seems to be setting up some sort of project.
