Considered by local tradition to be spirits of whirlwinds and dust devils, these creatures are capable of assuming an invisible form, winging their way upon the gusting currents of the air, whipping up the whidwind and directing the destruction of the storm. Uprooted trees, broken branches and other storm damage are a clear indication that these dragons have been fighting among themselves. There is an old folk tale about a young carpenter from the Second Age who met one of these dragons and his two brothers, the dragon of Frost and the dragon of the Sun, but he made a special show of homage to the dragon of the Wind. Angered at this, the dragon of the Sun warned him that he could scorch him, but the dragon of the Wind assured that he would send a cold breeze and allay the heat. The dragon of the Frost warned that he, too, could freeze his blood and render him still, but the dragon of the Wind once again proved his superiority, asserting that he would summon up the southerly winds and thaw the young carpenter. Thus, they were highly revered, and legend says that the roaring hurricane was the sound of their brawls, while the whirlwinds were the joyful swirling of their wedding dances.
