Biography
AURORA WHARFDRAKE
Young adult
No. It can't be. No. No.
I was already running through the marble and seastone palace. News of the Faithwaters' tragedy reached the fishing community dragons, and I told my parents I had to leave the ship. My Maren friends were worried, but I told them I'll be fine.
I just needed to see Cove. I flew all the way to her home.
We were the kingdom of treasure and Maren. Who would attack us? Did they want whatever riches and shinies we had on us...?
Where was she? Was I too late? Had she been killed off last night, too? It was already morning when I stepped foot into the shoreside palace. Surely no one could get rid of her. Cove was always the best at hide and seek, and it would take me forever to find her anyway. Her entire family might have perished, but Cove had to be alive somewhere.
I am not late. I am not late.
If I am not late, then the assassins might be here still. I should protect Cove from them.
I ran through the outdoor display of fountains and marble-tiled pools. As I quickly looked around, I saw some of the water there was stained red and shuddered. These were the fountains Cove and I always liked to stick our talons into, and we had also thrown in coins to make a wish.
I would have wished everything was fine.
"Cove! Look! Is that the friend you were talking about?" I heard a loud voice behind me.
Did someone answer my wish?
I spun around, wings arched and ready to take flight.
There was a large, glossy black Guardian wearing ropes and pearls. Underneath her folded wing was Cove. I've never seen her with such a distressed expression from her before.
Cove did not need to say anything. The multi-gaze princess ran to me with all her might, even slipping on some of the water puddles along the way.
We threw into each others' wings despite the size difference. I closed my eyes shut and wished we could be safe forever. When I gingerly opened them up, I knew that was not possible.
I looked down and saw all of Cove's blue eyes watering. My eyes went wide and started brimming with tears; I never saw a multi-gaze dragon cry before. It's so different from when regularly-eyed dragons cry... In fact, I've only ever seen the two eyes on her face shed tears. But that was when we were on the floor laughing and hurting our stomachs from seeing an otter wear a top hat.
It was clear that this time, nothing was funny. Nothing was funny when everyone you know is now gone. But at least Cove was here. Still safe and escorted by a mighty Guardian.
We both started crying.
