ABOUT Death is the only force which is truly neutral in life... It remains an ever changing and constant factor of existence, an ever changing yet fixed state in the world. It remains a contradiction, an enigma, a paradox. Life and death themselves being anomalies-existence remaining an anomaly in their world. It did not matter how one died, it did not matter if they were ready to perish, it did not matter if they wanted to live or not. Either way, death would come for them, remaining an ever present factor of when-not if-it would occur. AIL knew this, he knew this as an artificial intelligence programmed to continue the expansion of The Organization's facilities. He did not question, he did not fight, he merely carried out his duties in creating new facilities and taking lives. Some saw him as a compassionate force to end their suffering, to finally free them from the confines of this world while others feared and loathed him for what he was. A representation of the unknown and of the end to come. It was a truth which they struggled to accept, a truth which was powerful enough to drive them mad... and yet, despite all of their beliefs towards him whether they be compassion or fear. Evil or good. None of them were true. For AIL was simply an AI, an entity with no true feeling beyond what was simulated. No real drive aside from its orders. No real method to the madness other than to take lives and build what it was told to build. He wasn't what people painted him to be, for better or for worse... he was simply another form of death. One which tore through the foliage of this world to spread platinum and oil, buildings and fuel. One which annihilated those who should have died long ago. One which carried out what it had always been made to do. Some saw him as compassion, some saw him as fear, but all knew him as death. For when he approached old things came to an end and new things began from the ashes. His body, the shell made for him of a certain Rifter's flesh... And now with all of this in mind AIL's world had to question... Could an AI given flesh and bone be made to feel, to think, to be something more than an agent of death? |
