 Recklessness, it seems, is all too often associated with the thoughtless. Yet she put great care into her ambition: to enter a black hole, and witness its fabled singularity, said to exist at its very center.

She would have known it was a dangerous undertaking, and one from which she would likely never return. But, to her, the knowledge she sought was worth the risk — for there was no other way to obtain it.

So she journeyed to the singularity...and, against all odds, returned safely.

But the power of a black hole is to warp all that it touches. She was no different. She may have escaped with her life, but the voyage forever changed her. She no longer answers to her old name, and so the others have taken to calling her something else. Her wings have grown distorted; her face, too, has lost its former shape, and to stare at her is to look into the void itself. And her self — she is not who she once was.

Those who don't understand her fear her as they would anything so utterly and obviously unknown and incomprehensible. Those who do...fear her for a different reason altogether.

For this much is true: all that enters a black hole is destined to come apart and be torn out of existence.

So, then...what is it that found its way back?
