Silkfall

She has always wanted to train more warriors. She loves how dragons who fumbled with their weapons can gain confidence over time and turn into mighty knights, grand protectors, dragons who will fight by her side to protect her home with honor and dignity.

She knows she has trained more young dragons than she count. She knows she has.
She can't remember most of them.

Deep in the night, when she tries to sleep, she curls up and cries for all those hatchlings she can't remember. She knows they were there, she can see evidence of them- weapons missing for no reason, the logs of visiting dragons no one seems to recognize- but they're gone. Erased completely from her memory.

She weeps, and as she greets the barely grown dragons excited to learn the claw and sword, her heart trembles at the knowledge that they will likely disappear soon too, leaving behind only the hole bleeding in her heart and quiet comforting from Martyr.

She hopes, desperately, that she isn't leading these children to their deaths.
She hopes they're alive and happy, wherever they are.
