Growing up in the Kaiator Library Galileo spent a lot of his free time reading books about trains, airships and other means of automated transportation. While one would assume a hatchling was reading picture books, Galileo was perusing all the illustrated manuals he could get his hands on. He absorbed information about the mechanical marvels like a sponge and utterly refused to read anything else despite his parent's varied attempts at having him vary his knowledge base. When he got a little older, Galileo's great uncle Ryuunosuke would take the young obelisk with him (due to much pleading from Galileo) to his job as a railroad engineer. As Ryuunosuke coordinated the freight cars in the train yard, Galileo would watch, giving nicknames to each of the trains that came to drop off their goods. When he was old enough to work, he apprenticed with the older train engineers, eventually becoming a full fledged engineer in his own right. After completing his apprenticeship, Galileo decided to travel, first by train within the Shifting Expanse and then using the airships that meandered all across Sornieth. He would offer his engineering skill in exchange for free passage allowing him to discover new parts of the world while learning the skills to work on the highly complex airships. It was at the Silverwind Airship Dock that Galileo met Thalassa who took him under her wing to really learn what it meant to build airships and manage the massive flying ships that came in and out of the port. Despite learning on trains, Galileo picked up her teaching quickly and eventually, with her blessing, left to find a place he could manage a port all on his own. That place was Bridgecourt who, as a fledgling clan, was in dire need of someone to take over the responsibility of running and maintaining the dock. Galileo has succeeded at that position for many years since. |
