Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this mysterious lil gal wandered a little too far from her home lair 523420, and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

Neonsunrise22 - 523420

Glade stood in a large field of flowers, trying to hold her head up high. It was her Exaltation Day, a choice given to all dragons once they came of age. Her parents watched from outside the meadow's edge, taking great care not to step from the safety of the forest. She watched them shuffle uncomfortably, no doubt wanting to get back to the temple. After what felt like an eternity, her mother Alina broke from the trees and slowly came to the center of the flowers, rearing on her high legs and addressing unseen dragons within the forest.

"Citizens of the Fringe! It is with heavy heart that we say goodbye to Glade. Her absence will be felt by everyone, and we wish her well on her travels in the Beyond..."

Her voice was shaking. Glade had never seen her mother so emotional, much less during an official ceremony. As the speech continued she felt guilt tear through her stomach. She had to push it aside. Had to, or else it would tear her in two. Finally Alina sat down, placing her talon on Glade's forehead. Tears streamed down her face, and her eyes held a longing to embrace Glade but she held her ceremonial attitude. Glade leaned into her touch, closing her eyes. It was going to be ok. As Alina began the chant the world began to feel syrupy, as if everything was melting together. The voice of her mother faded as she slipped into the fog filling her mind. Finally, everything came rushing back with a resounding CRACK as she was thrust onto a strange stone path in an unfamiliar world. Glade drew in a deep breath and started along the path, ignoring the guilt that still persisted.

Perseverance - 483003

After following the path for quite some time, Glade found herself in an unfamiliar forest. Tall pines seemed to surround her as she followed the trail, blocking out the sun and leaving her to rely on bio-luminescent fungi in order to see where she was going. However, the small mushrooms proved to be less than reliable as Glade realized she had somehow strayed from the familiar path in the ground and was now walking through the forest- without an exit in sight. Surely there would be an end to the trees at some point?

A day passed by without any sign of sunlight as Glade was still lost in the forest. She had begun to lose hope, until a passing group of three dragons- two coatls and a pearlcatcher- noticed the verdant imperial as she rested in the wood. The three- Eirlys, Bride, and Nadia, explained themselves to be members of their clan's sentry, and were just returning from a successful hunt. Glade asked the three if she could accompany them to their clan, and they allowed it.

Arriving to their clan- which she found out was called Sanctuary- Glade was greeted by the sight of countless dragons that had called the Tangled Wood home for as long as they could remember. In exchange for a few days of food and shelter, Glade volunteered to help the sentry with their duties- scavenging the forest for materials, guarding the clan's walled perimeter, and even aiding the clan apothecary in their ever-growing search for herbs and minerals. When the time came for Glade to once again set off on her journey, Nadia led her to the path she had lost track of some time ago, and followed it with her to the edge of the Tangled Wood. Thankful for the help she had received from Nadia's clan, she wished her the best before once again starting along the path.

Strangeflesh - 576542

As she was one of the Almost-Exalted, it was something she could sense. She felt a strange feeling as she feel slowly through the foggy air of the wasteland as she flew.

Glade saw something below her, a young dragon struggling in a pool of acid. Glade help her out of the muck, and the little thing thanked her. But something felt a bit off, a bit…chaotic.

Glade shuddered and flew into the air.

Zikul - 12962

Shortly after taking off, Glade realized she had no idea where to fly. In the distance, she spotted a dragon seemingly set on the same path as her.

She followed him at a distance at first, but as she came closer she realized he wasn't alone - he was just the last in a large swarm of dragons. Once her curiosity trumped her insecurity, she caught up with him and found that he was friendly.

He'd hatched in Plague, but his clan was one of the migrating ones. Ancient lore told of origins as far away as Fire. Since then, they'd moved between countless flights, and Glade had caught them just as they were about to migrate from Plague to Arcane.

Finding safety in numbers, Glade accepted the invitation to travel along with them. When they arrived in the crystalline lands of the Arcanist, she helped her new friends as they set up camp near the Tourmaline Archives. The Imperial she had first met, SpringtimeStorm, quickly became her very best friend. Soon, they were inseparable, and Glade decided to stay with him for a while. He, similarly, decided that if she ever left, he'd go with her, and stay with her for as long as the elements allowed.

Days passed, and Glade could tell that her companion was becoming antsy. Beautiful as the Starfall Isles were, she felt ready to continue her journey.

So she and SpringtimeStorm said their goodbyes and took flight. They danced and chased each other around the Pillar of the World, soaring over the Behemoth, until they finally took respite in a sleepy corner of the Worldedge Wetlands.

They explored the fertile undergrowth of the mangroves and scoured the verdant shoals, until they came across an odd congregation of dragons.

Cautiously, the pair approached the spectacle.

They were quickly stopped in a small dell, where they found themselves surrounded by four strange, snake-like dragons [1], [2], [3], [4]. They circled them, curiously. Almost suspicious. They asked questions, where they came from, what they were doing here.

The strange dragons closed in, cornering the pair. Glade quickly tried to shield SpringtimeStorm from the threat, folding him protectively behind her wing.

She stared down the dragons, trying to be brave. Her gaze locked sternly with the beady red glare of the dragon armoured with cruel-looking spines. She watched its eye twitch, then crinkle, then it let out a strange sound. Almost a bark. Then another. Then another.

It was laughing. Its fellows shortly followed, falling one by one into harmless, giggling heaps. She looked between them, utterly bewildered, feeling SpringtimeStorm peek out from behind her wing, matching her confusion.

The ethereal blue dragon recovered first, apologising for their japery and introducing himself as Ithil, his brother, Bug, and their companions, Martin and Ulyssa.

They told the pair many travellers seem to find their clan, but they were the first these four had met first hand. They offered food and accommodation for their troubles, leading them into a patchwork lair, filled with a vibrant tapestry of dragons. From dark-eyed Spirals to bushy-tailed Coatls, earnest Fae and guileless Snappers, dragons from every corner of the world seemed to exist in chaos and harmony here.

SpringtimeStorm and Glade found themselves welcomed warmly, plied with delicious, fresh food, and incredible stories. They even managed to bump tails with another traveller by the name of Asiri, who was visiting his hatchlings while searching for answers to some sort of prophecy.

They found a warm nest to share and hunkered down for the night, taking a well-deserved rest before continuing their journey.

HailForTheStorm - 673922

Entering The Docks of The Stilted Spires the pairing found all sorts of dragons, all coexisting like their previous place, though the air here was different, and not just from the ocean all around them. Dragons in all sizes were in and out of the place, rarely did the two see the same dragon twice, until they found The Outskirts, where they met a strange pearlcatcher named TideShudder.

Many tried to convince Glade to change her name and for the two to settle down, but they always politely refused, TideShudder was the first to treat them normally, the first to take them in and not have obvious ulterior motives.

Everything was good. Too good. It all started when TideShudder brought them to meet the 'Family', who were strange but welcoming, then they were taught how to use basic magic, even helping them discover their strengths and weaknesses! Then there was the meetings, under the cover of night they'd go, to where? The two couldn't quite tell, as Tide would lead them through the pitch black darkness.

Hushed voices would greet them, they'd speak in odd tones to the newcomers, friendly contact luring them in, speaking of peace and no more struggle, someone, someone new would save them.

Glade woke up one day in a cold sweat when she finally realized what was going on, this was no 'magic club' or 'Family', this was a cult. That night, the pair didn't follow TideShudder, instead they flew away, not using the Airships so they couldn't be tracked, as they flew until they were too tired to fly anymore.

Glade was scared, more scared than she had been in a while. She was cornered, wings tented protectively over SpringtimeStorm as she pressed herself against a tree. The air around her was thick with spores, they filled Glade’s desperate lungs with poison, choking her as her body tried to fight back against the very thing she needed to live. Her attacker, a malformed husk of a dragon, was to blame. It’s body host to what seemed to be deadly mushrooms. It tilted his head, studying the pair with a bank stare. Glade winced, trying not to meet its beady gaze as she desperately searched her memory for a way out.

Glade had gotten herself into this mess when she and SpringrimeStorm had spotted smoke while flying over a patchy, unmarked forest and decided to check it out. They had hoped it was a camp or town they could spent the night in, after all an unmarked area on the map was no abnormality. Glade cursed herself for being so careless and walking right into the trap, the creature that had waited in the dark forest was going to be her demise.

“WATCH OUT!” a yell broke her from her train of thought and she snapped her head up to see an arrow sail towards them. It hit the monster with a sickening thunk.
“What are you waiting for? RUN!” A green Coatl ducked out from behind a tree and gestured for them to follow. Barely seconds passed before she jumped up, helping SpringtimeStorm to his feet as she stole glances at the monster. It was distracted, clawing at the arrow that was still sticking out of its side, it had forgotten about them for now, Glade hoped that when it remembered they would be far away from there.
