Elegast is a fairly well-known dragon in the village, but nobody knows them well.
They lurk in the gardens and sleep in the trees. They curl up among patches of flowers, and feed the plants when they call out for nourishment. They don't have a den; they don't need one. The flora of the village is all the home that they need. That being said, don't be mistaken; Elegast is far from a calm or peaceful individual. He'll lie in his plant beds, resting, only to jump up and startle the next unfortunate dragon to wander by. He'll wait in the trees, only to lean down and steal something the second someone lets their guard down. He'll whisper vague messages to the wind, lead people on wild goose chases, and cause general confusion. For all of the chaos that Elegast loves to invoke, though, they never cause any harm. They know exactly what trinket won't be missed, which dragons have time to spare and which can't afford the distraction. Sometimes dragons will purposefully bring their hatchlings over to where they think the aether might be hiding, and the dragon will be happy to distract the children for a while while their parents are working. |

When Elegast first arrived in the village, the other inhabitants were somewhat confused, somewhat bewildered. Him and his mate, Solaris, showed up together. Both had strange behaviours, and abilities that seemed almost unnatural. At first they tried to understand; to figure out who exactly these two were. Alas, no answers appeared. To those who would try to dig further, it almost felt as though no answers had ever existed; that this was just an enigma in life that you had to accept and move on.
Of course, that's not possible. There is always an answer, even if it's hard to find. Elegast was strange in their knowledge: they knew things that they shouldn't be able to, like the favourite food of the most private dragons, the schedule of the most disorganised dragons, the location of any and every lost item that the most forgetful of dragons misplaced, and when a dragon had forgotten to water the plants. |
In truth, Elegast themself wasn't doing much. They just had a little help.
When he was little, Elegast's parents had been gardeners. Elegast grew up among the plants, helping to raise and grow them and learning to understand what they needed. And from a very young age Elegast had an affinity for this; it was amazing how the flora under his care flourished.
It took years for Elegast to finally realise that plants aren't supposed to speak. They sung to the flowers, and the flowers sung back. The vegetation whispered advice, little tidbits of knowledge they had overheard from the dragons passing by. When he was lonely, Elegast would sit in the forest and listen to whatever the plants had to say.
The plants proved reliable. They always listened, they never lied, and they were always there. Elegast trusted them and so they trusted him in turn.
And so if the crops grew faster when he was around? If the flowers grew brighter, and the grass got greener? Well, nobody ever mentioned it.
