The ice is melting. A slow drip, drip, drop. Where once was solid and cold, a stream begins to flow. The blanketing white receeds and soaks into damp darkened soil, and is warmed by tetative spring sunlight.
Winter is still waiting in the wings, deadly icy frost still lurks in the hollows and low places. Tentitive but brave, green shoots begin to emerge from beneath the soil and snow that grow and begin to bud and bloom.

Flowers of many colors begin to replace the blanket of cold white. Their delicate petals and sweet fragrance entice hibernating pollinators into wakefullness once again. Some brave individuals awaken from their wintery nap to the coming spring, however the dangers of the frost have not fully abated.

The days get longer and the nights get shorter and the air begins to warm, spring has arrived but still lingers under the overhang of winter. Flora and fauna, both large and small begin their rush to prepare for the burning summer and freezing winter ahead.
