Shallows

Rid of me

"Her breath is stale. Her scales are cold. Her eyes are dead."

A ghostly voice breathed.

"Her heart is unmoving. Her bones are broken. Her wings are tattered."

Footsteps, clinking on the water.

"Her tail is limp. Her claws are dull. Her voice is mute."

A locket, swinging in tandem with a censer of ethereal mist.

"She is unyielding. She is gentle. She is death's whisper."

Shallows stopped, standing on the surface of water. Her eyes looked lost as they settled on the depths.

"Where are you?" She croaked, her hushed chant falling silent.

Gala was gone. Gala had tried to look for the Lord and she wasn't anywhere to be found.

Shallows breathed. It wasn't deep but it was long. Thin, watery.

Then her lungs were empty.

She thrashed as water suddenly surged up, grabbing onto her and dragging her down.

Shallows didn't feel fear, her sadness chased away with boiling anger.

The water bubbled, spat, even as she was dragged to the cold depths. Steam seeped from her very scales and her censer, though quenched, was renewed, glowing as smoke rose through the boiling water.

A life flashing before her eyes. It was her's but it wasn't this one.

"She is not death's whisper. I am."

Her voice reverberated through the depths.

Gala searched for what Shallows presumed to be dead.

And Shallows found her body on the ocean floor.
