Sylum grew up in a peaceful place blessed by the Gladekeeper known as The Haven. He spends his days gardening with his grandfather. His father is shy and reclusive, while his mother is adventurous and confident. He shares the passion that both of them have, but he remains content to live a quiet, uneventful life.

Or so he thought. He wasn't quiet sure what made him want to leave The Haven. His mother had mentioned her own desires to one day take flight and see the world, but Sylum had not thought that that was something he longed for. Yet he found himself ready to pack up and head in the direction of the Lightweaver's domain. He couldn't explain why exactly. It felt almost like a pull, as if something were calling him.

After traveling for many weeks he finally arrived near the Sunbeam Ruins. Tired from his journey, he laid down to rest. But his sleep was restless, for he had nightmarish visions of what dangers may await him in this unfamiliar land. What if he'd made a mistake, leaving the safety of his home? He began to panic, his heart rate escalating.

Suddenly, a gentle melody permeated his dreams. Relief was immediate, yet his heart rate continued to pound. Sylum awoke with a start and found himself looking up at a beautiful Nocturne female. Surprised, she stopped humming momentarily. When she resumed, Sylum felt that blissful calm wash over him once more. He felt lulled into a sense of serenity. But he didn't want to sleep! He felt that pull once more, stronger than ever. Surely this meant something!

Sylum introduced himself to the humming Nocturne, who introduced herself as Somnia. He asked her about the humming and she explained that her gift was that of soothing minds agitated by fear, as his had been. He explained that he'd left his tranquil home in search of the being that called to him and he believed that their meeting was fated to be.

The two began to spend time together. She went about her work of chasing away nightmares while he cultivated a small garden and pond from which to harvest their sustenance. Pleasant days went by, reminding him of his youth. When the time felt right, he and Somnia hatched a clutch of eggs together.
