Lycoris

Lycoris is an unusual Aether that always seems to have something on his mind. Both metaphorically and literally. He plans to bring peace to Sornieth by connecting the minds of the dragons he comes across. Piros, the disguised worm atop his head, has figured out a way to do so. The tentacles along his sides can release a reddish-orange nectar that vaguely tastes like peaches. He will try to distribute this nectar to dragons that he deems worthy, and those that consume it will find an unpleasant surprise within. In every nectar cup he provides, there is usually an egg from Piros inside. This gel-coated egg will hatch inside of the dragon’s mouth, releasing a small larva that will travel up to the host’s brain. Once the larva has reached the brain, it will connect its tendrils to it, forming a telepathic link to its mother. It’s easy to tell if a dragon has been afflicted, since their sclera will darken, and red veins will pulse below their eyes. Anew refers to the infected as Scarlet Mourners, as the veins writhe in ways that makes it seem like the host is crying.

Piros’ goal is to multiply and form a complex hive mind, with her as its queen. Since Lycoris’ goals and hers aligned, she opted for a symbiotic relationship with her host. She provides him with information and insight, while he gives her protection and new hosts. Even so, Lycoris maintains his original personality. He is intelligent and soft-spoken, preferring to think before he speaks. He’ll gladly give an encouraging word to someone if they are feeling upset. Lycoris demeanor will take a violent shift if someone attempts to harm Piros. The tentacles along his side are permanent additions to his body and with a well-aimed swing, they can split boulders.
