The thing is, he's not actually a bad fighter. Helix is good, great at fighting and has been for a long time now, since when he was a kid and playfully wrestling the biggest and best to the ground. He's fit, he's smart, he was the first choice for, well, everyone, to go apprentice under the Captain of the Guard.

And here it is, the kicker. The moment he stepped out on his first patrol, he tripped over an unnoticed tree root, nearly right into the jaws of a monster. On his second patrol, nearly all the monsters he went after, even the ones lying immobilized and near dead on the ground, managed to dodge his attack and quickly retaliate against him. And his third patrol? Every single monster chased after him, despite the two others in his team standing, you know, right there.

The thing is, he's not actually a bad fighter, but his luck is just- horrid.
