Xeper is a mage, though he doesn't practice magic suited for combat. He's more interested in spells for enchanting objects or summoning spectral familiars - and he's adept at levitation spells, too.

He has a reputation for being dark and a bit scary, but that's based only on his looks - in truth, he's a friendly and upbeat dragon who loves performing his spells as though they're party tricks. The primary use of his magic is to elicit a reaction from his friends.

He has a habit of getting engrossed in his magic, and can spend hours deciphering old mages' tomes. He likes to develop his own spells, and may spend weeks perfecting any one. His dedication to his craft means he often toils away in his den without breaks - this makes it somewhat unusual to see him out and about around the lair, and has only added to the rumors about him.

Merlin, his familiar, was some sludge that Xeper brought to life through his own enchantments.

Rumor has it that Xeper is a mysterious and scary dragon who practices dark magic. This isn't true, of course, but his reputation precedes him. He tends to get sucked into his work developing new spells, and thus isn't often seen around the lair - which means he's rarely present to disprove the rumors, and the mysterious air about him grows. Those he has met can vouch for how outgoing and sweet he is, but many in the clan, especially the younger dragons, still hold on to the rumors about him.

He loves to entertain others, and uses his spells to show off when he gets the chance. He's not often invited to parties and social events, since he's not often around to be invited, but when he gets the opportunity he loves to hang out in large groups and make friends. If he can be pried away from his spell tomes, he's really quite the social butterfly.

He has been asked by Priscilla to join the warriors of the clan, as they don't have mages in their ranks. However, it's not in his nature to fight, even in defense of the clan, and he's vowed never to use his magic to bring others harm. To him, his magic is a thing of joy, and the spells he's crafted are a labor of love. He'd never use them to cause harm.

He's friends with Arabella, having met her as she grows many herbs that he uses in his spells. His outgoing and jovial nature helps balance her tendency for melancholy, and his presence is good for her as he helps her learn to lighten up a bit. At the same time, he understands that she's a quieter personality. It's not unusual for the two to hang out in his den, Arabella sitting quietly by as he toils away at a spell, one of them occasionally piping up with a small comment of joke. These prolonged periods of quiet don't bother Xeper, and he's happy to spend time with his friend, whether that means showing off magic at a party, or peacefully doing their own things in the same room.
