Giovanni was born in an ancient lair hidden within Cairnstone Rest to Scoundrel and Hanta of the Heart's Brood. Though Scoundrel was Arcane and Hanta was Light flight, they both favoured the Plague aesthetic, as did the others in Heart's Brood. Giovanni never really cared for that sort of thing, so when he was old enough, he ventured into the Arcanist's Domain with some vague idea of finding his father's home clan.

Instead, he found Sullivan. The half-blind Snapper was on a walk with Ming, discussing the arrival of the new Ancient breed, and well... to say that Giovanni was immediately smitten would be an understatement. He shyly introduced himself, and Ming, ever-observant, noticed the Earth Snapper's interest in his friend, and suggested that they invite him over for tea. Sullivan was always excited when the topic of tea came up, as tea usually comes with biscuits and other delightful treats, and so he readily agreed.

They had a lovely tea in which Giovanni spent most of his time gazing rather starry-eyed at the oblivious Sullivan. Ming immediately began to scheme on how to ensure they got to know each other much better. When he casually mentioned that their clan didn't have a proper courier service, Giovanni leapt at the opportunity. Being a Snapper, he was unusually suited for wandering long distances on foot, and very good at finding his way, plus his bulk meant he was strong enough to carry all manner of goods. He wasted no time in volunteering for the position, much to Ming's glee.

Now that Giovanni was unofficially a part of the clan, Ming started to concoct silly reasons to send an unusual amount of messages to Sullivan, and made sure they were all very long-winded letters written in handwriting too small for the mostly blind Snapper to decipher without help. Giovanni was more than happy to read each of these letters to Sullivan, and offered to run all sorts of other errands as well. Sullivan was happy to have the company of the other Snapper, but much to Ming's exasperation, remained clueless about Giovanni's crush on him.

Finally, Ming resorted to drastic measures, writing a letter that clearly stated Giovanni's interest in Sullivan, and addressing it to his friend, so that Giovanni had no choice but to read it aloud. The lovestruck Snapper became more and more tongue-tied as he figured out what Ming had done, but he powered through, and when he was finished, Sullivan had tears in his shadowy eyes. From that point onward, the two Snappers were inseparable, and Ming was pleased with his matchmaking success.

Giovanni still runs errands and delivers messages and goods for the clan, and despite the fact that he cannot fly, he counts himself an equal with couriers such as Edgar, Pearl, and Spitfire.
