Originally, Ye Wangxi was trained to be the next leader of the Shadow Guard, and a result she changed her voice and apperance to be able to live as a man. However, her earth-based cultivation proved to be incompatable with the Shadow Guard's skills, and instead she became the right-hand man of the Rufeng Sect Leader, Nangong Liu.

Although in love with Nangong Si, whom she grew up with, the two are not fated to be together in either timeline.
In the original timeline, her identity as a woman was exposed earlier, and the two were married. However, he died soon after their marriage supposedly of an illness, but more likely he was murdered. When Taxian Jun destroyed the 72 cities of Rufeng Sect, Ye Wangxi never surrendered even though the other leaders of Rufeng Sect had abandoned the battlefield to save themselves, and she had been betrayed by Song Qiutong. After her death on the battlefield, Taxian Jun recongonized her as a worthy oponent, and honored her request to be burried alongside Nangong Si.

In the second timeline, Nangong Si becomes engaged to Song Quitong, and even though that engagement is broken off, he and Ye Wangxi have very little time together as Nangong Si sacrifices himself so that others can live.
