“Sometimes we can worry about a thing so much, the fear can make us feel we're trapped in a nightmare” • as princess Luna once said
Name Meaning: The Deeps; Abyss |
|
It began as the Ancients arose. A plague of nightmares spread across Sornieth, moving faster than it had any right to. Some were old memories, passed down from ancestors who had lived through the war-torn ages; some were family memories from much sooner, of those who had endured attacks from the other flights; some weren’t memories at all, but deep-seated fears that could too easily become reality. After three days, it seemed every dragon had the nightmares. After five, some could no longer tell the nightmares apart from their own memories. After seven, for some, the nightmares were more real than any memory. Weeks passed, and the situation was only getting worse - until a hatchling broke free of his egg and looked into his parents’ eyes, and in moments, they felt the dreams slip from their mind. They remembered truth, now. They remembered what was real. A second hatchling of such power was born soon after, and she helped her clan the way he helped his. In time, they moved on, each determined to heal all of Sornieth single-handedly if they had to. As they went, they discovered a second ability: they could alter and replace dreams, turning them from howling nightmares to things soft and sweet. They found one another in the Sunbeam Ruins. Both of them had come to a clan in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye; when they learned they had the same abilities, they started talking more seriously, and in the end, they asked the clan leaders for permission to join, to stay and have hatchlings of their own. Their guesses were right - their descendants inherited a share of their powers, weakened though they were. It would take time for them to help others with the nightmares, and more effort, but they could do it. The question now is… will they? |

It's somewhat hard to have no worries or fears in harsh environments, especially for some who wasn't born in a place like this one. Even those who feel comfortable in plague lands often have their own trauma, haunting them for incredibly long time. Forever lost friends or families, horrible accidents and many other kinds of sad stories tend to cause a lot of stress, unreasonable fears or even mental illnesses, if you're not lucky enough. And with spreading Nightmare Plague these issues are blooming in their worst, decreasing abilities to think and work properly, no matter how hard you try. You just can't get enough sleep, and when you're able to, you're completely sunken in horrors of your own mind. Tehom wasn't really a type of dragon to communicate with her parents, she doesn't even remember much about them at this moment. Besides one specific thing, which happened to be her own special magical ability: healing nightmares. As she knows, Tehom got this said ability from her mother, who got it from her own parents. She didn't think much about this, honestly. Being a doctor wasn't really her passion. Tehom preferred being able to travel anywhere she wants, and sometimes helping dragons around her with dream magic, mostly in exchange for food or any pretty or useful items. |

Most clans tend to stay in only one place forever, rarely moving to somewhere else, building various kinds of structures in their hometowns, and even more rarely they move to other elemental territories. Not all of them do this, though, and Devouring Dreams is the exact case. Tehom found about this a bit edgy name something endearing. Even ironic. Especially knowing, that it was a little wind fae, who named their clan like that, not anybody actually born in plague or shadow. Their somewhat nomadic life was a nice taste of fresh air for Tehom, and filled her with curiosity to know about them more. These small green eyes were promising. Devouring Dreams don't tend to travel outside of plague, which was kind of resting. Tehom wasn't ever a wind dragon, after all, even though traveled a lot. Sometimes you need to settle in. She quickly became friends with Shinzo and Starvation of all dragons. They don't even talk much to each other, mostly just rest together. Starvation is a fellow magician, albeit in a completely different field, and Shinzo... having a small fuzzy pet and really cute and caring husband didn't help her much with her nightmares. Especially ones about her long lost daughter, whom she is constantly trying to rebuild as a robot. Some help from a "nightmare specialist" is the exact one needed here, and Tehom is happy to do so in this case. |
