Biography

Dr. Edvard E. Riptide
Reclusive Failed Inventor

-He/him, Straight
-Hailing from the Sunbeam Ruins, following in the footsteps of the great inventor and engineer Prospero, Riptide is an aspiring inventor himself. He's got a half-way decent enough background in engineering, having trained to work in the trades as a lad, but it wasn't until he heard of the work by the great Fae inventor that he truly realized he wanted to do such fantastic work for himself as well. He was just an average joe, and he'd had enough of that, it didn't feel like he was doing enough with his life and effecting the greater world at large just replacing broken parts in vehicles! He decided that he wanted to make something that was going to change the world. But he didn't know how. And so, he set out for the Starfall Isles, finding himself settling in the Starwood Strand as what was initially a smaller pitstop before travelling out to the Astrolodome in search of guidance. However, it was there that he heard of SAR, and realized his true calling. ....Supposedly. We've lost count of how many times he's applied now. Each time, he wheels out some new invention that inevitably falls apart or looks dangerous from the get-go, and each time he's told his services aren't needed. Yet, he still keeps at it. Living in a run-down house on the edge of town where he continues his inventing, making money on the side by doing some odd repair jobs or disposing of scrap metal. This time though, he swears, he has the invention that'll finally prove his worth to SAR! Not yet mind you, not yet - but Riptide has his mind set on something... far better than Prospero's lousy mech. That thing is old, clunky, with a rudimentary AI, and needs a pilot to fully function. But a strange traveller has been lurking around town lately - one capable of basic magic, who moves and behaves exactly as any other dragon would far more confidently than Kage, that only Riptide's cunning eye recognizes for what it really is...
-Annoying. That would be the first word to come to mind for most people when you bring up Riptide (who isn't even a real doctor, if you were wondering). He's incredibly self-centered but in the loudest, most obnoxious way possible. Anyone he meets is going to inevitably be forced to hear about whatever he's working on or doing that day, as he sneaks it into every conversation possible, and will easily talk your ear off if you give him too much slack. He never listens to anyone else though, never asks questions and will completely steamroll any conversation to make it about himself. And he goes so fast, with such an intensity no matter how many times he's had this exact conversation, that it really is difficult to get a word in at all. It makes him the worst to deal with if he wants something from you too. Riptide is an unstoppable force. And he seems either completely oblivious to his own behaviour, or purposefully doesn't care. Most likely some combo of both..... Riptide's completely danger-blind too, he seems to have no sense of self-preservation or concern for anyone else's safety, despite claiming he invents with the intent on bettering society. He's clearly just doing it for recognition. And he'll definitely get recognized if he puts someone in the hospital, honestly. Though, it's probably going to be himself at this rate. That new guy in town he keeps stalking and trying to trap seems like he's about to snap any day now. Riptide is nothing short of a huge, stupid jerk with a complex because he learned to repair AC units five years ago.
-Not Partnered, no time for all that nonsense.
