Biography
Pronouns: They/them
Kin: Varrimi (son), Arkivol (daughter), Shalo (granddaughter)
Role: ??? (Might actually be Death)
Vdekja just sort of... arrived one day at the skull of the great beast. They made no aggressive gestures but neither did they say anything but their own name and the name of the Tengu accompanying them when questioned, and then they calmly but assertively made their way inside. Since then they have not spoken once to anyone except to quietly confer with their companion in Tengu every once in a while. Indeed it's unclear if they speak anything other than Tengu, though they do seem to understand what is said to them, or at least, some Sanctuary members think they remember Vdekja maybe nodding once or twice before ignoring them again.
Vdekja carved out a corner of the Vestibule library for themself and has stayed there since, by all appearances doing nothing but watching and occasionally humming a low sad tune. Eventually curiosity ebbed away and the dragons of Silverslick Sanctuary decided to leave the odd off-putting Guardian well enough alone, as they weren't hurting anyone and they had room and food to spare. Most forgot they were even there, until they day a deeply wounded Banescale arrived at their door.
Likely he was a casualty of the fight for dominance, the front line of which had been dangerously close to their doorstep in the preceeding months. Whose side he was on was difficult to tell, but it didn't matter to the leaders of the sanctuary, who had long ago swore to accept any who needed help regardless of circumstances. If only they could have this time. There was naught After or even Moira could do for the poor soul, so severe were his injuries, and he raved long and loud in his dying madness, until he stilled, staring into a dark corner with eyes sharp and clear. There Vdekja stood, unfolding their great feathered wings and slowly approaching the rapt benescale. Upon reaching him they curled around him like a parent around a hatchling and began to hum their strange sad song, nuzzling him and staring into his eyes. He calmed in their embrace, and though it was a few hours yet before he passed, he did so as though he was falling into a gentle sleep. Vdekja took the body then and left with it into the wastes, gone a while before returning and settling again into their favored spot, their eyes brighter than before. No dragon asked where they had taken him, they knew they would get no answer.
Vdekja still mostly continues to keep to themself, but it is now known that if a dragon is fighting for their life in the sanctuary and the mysterious Guardian arises to tend to them, they are not long for this world.
