The Benevolent Giver

Of thin silk thread and ponderous copper adornments, of soft vaned feather and stern icy gaze — comes harbinger of the nearing winter. On the tips of his robe he brings the last clear skied days, on his tongue — a smell of sweet fortified wines.

Within his claws — bountiful gifts, given freely and without expectation of reciprocacy. With them — tiny prophecies. Of the sun rising above the mountains. Of the crisp morning air, nigh electrified with hoarfrost. Of the last autumn drizzle slowly giving way to snow under the dim street lights. And then, yet again, of the dripping icicles and budding leaves and thawing streams.

Of the future that is.
