The Ocean's Shadow
Mawli has always loved dark places.
There's a comfort to be found deep on the ocean floor. To him, it is a safe place. No need to think. No need to feel.
Mawli is an undertide that has lived deep beneath the sea by himself for years. The isolation has made him slightly mad and he will often make conversation with no one in particular. His existence is something of a legend. There's even a sea shanty that warns sailors to beware the undertide of the deep ocean, for he may drag you deep below the waves, never to be seen again.
The truth is a bit stranger than that. Mawli's desires are a bit contradictory. He wants to be left alone, yet he wants friends too. So he prefers to dwell in the darkness away from the light of day. But upon encountering a new face, he might just try to drag them to his underwater home. But they often escape. It doesn't really cross his mind to ask for permission.
