Biography

──────────────────
Potato
he/him sensitive thoughtful scholar
──────────────────

Potato's early memories are of tiptoeing through enormous, bustling lairs as a hatchling, dodging adult dragons going briskly about all manner of business, and trying to find a quiet corner in which to curl up with his latest toy or book. He only dimly remembers living among the open grasslands of the Windswept Plateau, but he still feels a deep-seated fondness for the land of his birth. His recollections of moving to the Starfall Isles, and happy afternoons spent reading about astronomy and magic in its many libraries, are much more recent and clear.

After living on the Isles for a time, Potato started feeling an urge to move on, as though there was someplace he was meant to be and he hadn't reached it yet. So once again he found himself packing some provisions and heading out into the wider world.

Potato travelled across rocky plain, through dark forest, and among stone ruin, and eventually entered the crackling desert of the Shifting Expanse. As he stopped at an oasis one evening to replenish his water stores, he noticed a strange shadow in the side of a nearby cliff. Approaching it cautiously, he realised it was a huge stone door. With storm clouds gathering in the darkening sky and no other obvious shelter in the area, he knocked hesitantly on the door, hoping the inhabitants would be accepting of a guest for the night.

Inside, he was enthusiastically welcomed by a genial Guardian dragon named Parsnip, and an ebullient Tundra dragon named Pneumonia. One night turned into another, and then another, and soon Potato realised that the place he had been searching for was in fact this cosy lair and its warm-hearted clan.

He settled in quickly, helping Parsnip in his garden, working with Pneumonia on her magical projects, and reading his way through — and adding to — the lair's book collection. But every night, as he gazed up at the stars through his little telescope, he would think wistfully of distant grasslands rustling under the same sky. When the others found out that Potato was homesick for the Plateau, they offered to accompany him on a trip there. Pneumonia was eager to see the world beyond the Expanse, and Parsnip was eager to ensure Pneumonia stayed out of trouble. So the three set off, picking their way carefully across lava fields, and soon Potato could see familiar kites and windmills in the distance.

Reacquainting himself with his original homeland quelled the ache in Potato's heart, especially since he could now share in exploring the Plateau with his clanmates, but he still felt like something was missing. As the three walked along the stormy coast, Potato noticed what looked like a shrine nearby, swaying gently in the heavy winds, and he felt strangely compelled to approach it.

In the shrine, Potato was greeted by a horde of fellow Wind dragons, many with bags packed, all eager to hear about his travels, and even more eager to set off on their own journeys. For some reason, he was drawn towards a bold Imperial dragon named Taro, and the next thing Potato knew, Taro was leading him out of the shrine and back towards his waiting clanmates.

Returning to the snug cave in the Shifting Expanse that he shared with Parsnip and Pneumonia and now Taro as well, Potato finally felt like he was home.
