A cloaked figure steps out from the shadows of a library. None of its patrons take notice as they peruse its trove of knowledge, after all, everyone is welcome to learn more. What they may not realize is the figure does not seek knowledge. No, indeed, they seek distraction from their visions of the future.
"The future is not so grand as the writers depict," they would whisper to a young dragon one day. "I have seen all it holds and wish to never see again because of it." This sent the youngling scurrying away from the cloaked figure, afraid. They were used to it, however, no one wants to know that they won't make it out of this life alive. But isn't that true for everyone eventually?
They have found the greatest pain of all is knowing too much. Their mind is constantly on the verge of shattering from the information overload, only soothed with stories of fictional worlds if only for a blissful moment. They have spent their years searching for moments of ignorance from the ugly truth of time. They gave up on searching for someone who would understand a long time ago. To do so is wasted effort in their eyes, wasted time. To read is to escape reality, to survive.
