Biography

Korvax could feel himself changing. It was slow, subtle, but it was increasing in pace. The corruption. Her corruption. Tiffany, the poor thing. She didn't mean it. All she wanted was a friend after centuries of wandering the void of space alone.

It was worse than Korvax thought. A letter came one day from Geoderoot Clan, from a dragon named Salem. A bloodseer, she foresaw a future of chaos, where Tiffany's corruption spreads across sorneith, transforming dragons into distorted mirrors of herself.

But there is a chance to prevent this future, Salem says. Her letter lays it all out. With her help, they can have a clutch of eggs and imbue them with what power Korvax has that remains uncorrupted. These children will then work with Korvax's siblings to contain Tiffany's corruption while Korvax attends her 'birthday party' and keeps her distracted.

Zoroaster, having received one quarter of his father's strength, vows to help free Korvax. He seeks a clan that can help him grow and flourish into someone capable of taking on Tiffany, a misguided eldritch space horror.

Zoroaster grimaced at the thought. He had sworn fealty to his father, Korvax, from the moment he first left his egg, and recognized the condition he had been placed in. But with his allotment of his father’s power, he doubted that he could contain a fraction of Tiffany’s corruption. Not yet, anyways. He silently pondered his predicament while rain poured steadily down outside the tavern he currently called home.

His steady line of concentration was broken, however, when the doors leading to the drenched Tangled Wood flew open. Turning his head to inspect the situation, he observed an Imperial cloaked heavily in gray. Various metal trinkets fastened to her cloak clashed as she removed her hood, flashing sporadically as they reflected the glow of hanging lanterns. He could sense a power similar to his father’s that seemed to hum through her, but the intensity of it seemed to radiate a chill throughout the tavern. Zoroaster could tell that she was not to be messed with.

This will do.

Removing himself from the seat he had been occupying for quite some time, he steadily approached the mysterious stranger. Her gaze turned to meet his.

“Excuse me, Miss," he hesitantly said, not knowing how the stranger would respond. "I couldn't help but notice you from the other side of the tavern. You radiate a certain aura of mystery that I find intriguing, not many dragons seem to be so… lethal.”

She gave him a cool stare as her red eyes pierced through his. Her voice was low and guarded as she questioned, “My name is Hel, daughter of the Unholy Matriarch, known as Narcissa. What do you want?”

Zoroaster paused, briefly startled by her direct response, and direct relation to him, given the fact that their parents are half siblings. He quickly regained composure, however, and said, “I believe it would be best if we had this discussion over a cup of tea. I assure you that it will be worth your time.”

Some time later, Zoroaster found himself explaining his father’s predicament to his cousin. He tried his best to convey the seriousness of the situation to her, while she remained wearing a heavy stare for most of the conversation.

“And this.. corruption, you say.” Hel took a moment to sip her tea, which had now lost all its warmth. “You say that your mother, the bloodseer, predicts that Tiffany will corrupt the whole of the world, like it has your father?”

“Yes,” Zoroaster grimaced. “My father entrusted me and my siblings with mere fractions of his power, in the hopes that we can work to contain her corruption. I have made my vow. I know that I must do what it takes to free my father from this fate. However…”

“However, what?”

“I am in need of further training. Though I possess a fraction of my father’s power, I fear that merely holding it is not enough for me to properly control and harness it. My father spent many years studying, practicing, and perfecting his craft. But I have had to learn the hard way, by making mistakes and then having to pay the price for them. I'm lost, and clueless on how to move forward.”

Hel chuckles, the first sign of emotion she has let herself show all night. “You are much more like your father than you think. From what I have heard, he too struggled with his power in the beginning when it first awakened, suffering through many experiments before he found balance.” She took a moment to toy with her cup of tea, now frozen over. “I believe that you have the same potential, even with a fraction of his power. If you insist on being trained, I will take you on as an apprentice.”

Zoroaster’s eyes widened. “Thank you, daughter of the unholy, I very much look forward to-”

“I wasn’t finished,” Hel interrupted, “and there is no need for formalities. Your training will be vigorous. If you wish to free your father from his corruption, and stop Tiffany’s antics, then you must be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. There will be trials laid ahead by me that test your strength, both physical and mental. But you will not be alone in this. I will be with you from beginning to end.”

“Then let us begin.” Zoroaster’s eyes gleamed with determination, a look that Hel seemed to appreciate. “I trust that you will be a good mentor.”

“I promise to do my best,” Hel said with a smile. “Come. We must leave at once, if you wish to begin your training then we shall travel to where it shall take place.”

The two dragons began to rise up from their meeting place, and toward the doors of the tavern.

“And where exactly will we be training- oh!” Zoroaster’s statement was silenced as he accidentally knocked his empty cup from the table. He quickly began to gather the ceramic shards from the floor, resulting in a small gash to form on his hand due to his rush. Blood fell to the wooden foundation beneath him as he cradled his wound.

“Don't worry,” Hel stated as she stood beside the Skydancer. “I’ll take the time to bandage it properly when we reach… are you alright?”

Zoroaster seemed to be in a trance, staring at the small pool that had gathered on the ground. It was as if his surroundings began to fade away from him, the entire world blurring as his eyes beheld a cacophony of images that flashed before him.

CORRUPTION WILL SPREAD LIKE A FESTERING SORE
CONSUMING ALL THAT IT REACHES AND MORE
BUT HOPE BURNS ON, A LIGHT THEY YIELD
WITH STRENGTH THEY SHALL FIGHT, AND NEVER KNEEL

…aster? Zoroaster. Look at me.”

Zoroaster’s trance was broken by Hel’s icy grasp on his shoulder. He looks up at his cousin in a daze.

“Is everything alright? You weren’t responding.” Zoroaster shakily stands, and turns to face Hel.

“It was nothing to be concerned about. I promise.”

“Good,” Hel lets out a sigh. “Then let us continue on our way. I’m sure you’ll love Sanctuary and the dragons that inhabit it- most are your kin.”

As the two dragons left the tavern behind and journeyed deep into the Tangled Wood, Zoroaster now knew more than ever that he would dedicate himself to the training Hel provided, and fulfill his expectation of helping to contain the corruption spread by Tiffany. For the sake of his father, and the fate of his world. -Lore written by Perseverance 20/02/2023
