The older Apostasi got the harder he found it being away from his biological parents. He would pester Sibyla day after day to take him back to the Churnscar Wharf and everytime she would say it'd only bring him more pain, but one day she eventually agreed. Traveling back to the wharf wasn't the hardest part of the journey for Apostasi, instead it was seeing that his parents had passed shortly after he was adopted by Sibyla. Standing in front of the graves, Sibyla explained she knew about their passing as they left a small inheritance for him for when he would've reached maturity. She handed him a small piece of parchment and said she thought he was ready for it now. Strucken by the grief of what he uncovered he returned with the only motherly figure he had left. Apostasi began taking an interest in Sibyla's work especially those involving spirits, but Sibyla refused to teach him knowing his goals. However she did teach Apostasi how to archive and document research notes and historical accounts, which paved the way for Apostasi to begin the better life his parents would've wanted for him. Sibyla taught him what she knew of The Duskborn a variety of dragons with little tying them together besides the Will of The Moons. Where would Apostasi's research on these dragons lead him? |

The harbormaster warned Apostasi before he left that a storm was coming and that it wasn't wise to set sail till it had past, but Apostasi left anyways setting out to a point where he could dive down to the trench. That night the storm hit the sea, waves violently crashed aginst themselves and the hull of the ship, thunder cracked as lightning struck around the ship. The winds lashed at the sails and the ropes strained struggling to keep them tight as Apostasi held onto the side of the ship trying to keep himself from being thrown into the raging seas. As the water sprayed onto the deck and Apostasi shivered from the cold and fatigue; a bolt of lightning struck the ship shattering the ship and throwing him offboard. Struggling to keep afloat and feeling the panic envelop him as water filled his mouth and eventually he felt a darkness overtake him. To his surprise, he awoke in a modest little shelter with a wildclaw with crimson red scales, and darkened eyes. She looked pained as if she wasn't here by her own choice and that something burdened her. She was boiling something in a pot. When she realized that Apostasi had awoken she went over with a cup of a green liquid tilting his head and let him drink from it. The bitter taste filled his mouth, "It'll help with the pain." she told him laying his head back down and setting the cup down. Apostasi tried to open his mouth to speak, but only coughed. "Just rest, you were in a far worst state when I found you two days ago." It had been two days? Sibyla must've been worried sick about him seeing as it wasn't supposed to be a long trip. As Apostasi recovered the next few days, he learned more of his rescuer. He learned her name was Ahra, she was originally from The Wispwillow Grove, and how she was an arcanist taught by a band of travelers. Even questions he asked hadn't asked her became apparent when night came. The sound of chains and tortured wails answered everything about why she was here. It was of her own volition, but to protect everyone around her as she had been afflicted by The Blood Moon. Her curse was a painful one if not fulfilled, with the insatiable hunger and the mindshattering pain brought from not indulging. He asked about it and she explained bare essentials, she explained the travelers and the ritual; dropping it after enough was said. When Apostasi had fully recovered, Ahra told him to leave for his own safety. He couldn't bring himself to leave knowing her pain without trying to help, and offered to take her with him. He could see the conflict his offer brought her, but she simply turned her back and said, "Please go, for your own sake." He sailed off to the north back to The Tangled Wood and returned home. Sibyla hugged him and asked where he had been, and sat down to tell her about Ahra. Sibyla understood and told him to do what he could for her. That month he returned to the island, bringing food and other supplies to the foot of Ahra's home. When she saw him, Apostasi could see the excitement before quickly playing it down and asking "What are you doing here Apostasi? I told you to leave." Apostasi set the supplies down before answering, "I'm here to make sure you’re ok and doing good." Ahra shook her head as she looked at what he brought, "Well you might as well make yourself useful if you're gonna be here." she said going in and taking some of the supplies inside, and Apostasi followed. The next few months were like this of Apostasi leaving and coming back, but one trip Ahra finally agreed to come with him. They sailed back to the mainland and Apostasi brought her to Sibyla to stay with her and undo the curse. Eventually came the night of the ritual and Apostasi stayed out of the ritual room waiting for Ahra and Sibyla to come back out. When they did, Apostasi almost didn't recognize Ahra as the crimson red scales had been replaced with scales resembling obsidian, but he saw her darkened eyes that she had before that he could never mistaken. He ran up to her and hugged her. Now Ahra, Apostasi and two old friends of Ahra's named Fathom and Fajra live together and go out traveling together researching the Duskborn. When not researching, Apostasi has a small business where people can pay to have clan or a singular dragon's life chronicled. |
