After a month of interstellar travel, the research ship from the Starfall Isles arrives at a distant planet to study a phenomenon known as the Lumen. From the moment the ship settles high in the planet's atmosphere, its sizeable crew of dragons sets to work untangling the mystery of the Lumen, an impenetrable wash of gleaming light that coats the planet once every few days. The Lumen's first pass over the research ship is a moment of elation, a buzz of excitement and eagerness as the crew takes advantage of their first true opportunity to study the object of their life's work.

But the ship begins to behave strangely. Lights flicker. Life support systems give random errors. A week's worth of food is lost to a malfunction. And a white shadow is seen stalking the halls. The crew has little time to put the ship to rights and escape, before the Lumen consumes them all.
