Biography

Gyerdas
zFD1tA9.png

Gyerdas' egg was lost from its nest in the Sea of a Thousand Currents right before it was ready to hatch, sucked away by a current when the lair was disturbed by the underwater creatures that occasionally threaten the Tidelord's subjects. It was cast into the rapids that flow between the steps of the Reedcleft Ascent, the impacts forcing him out of his eggshell prematurely. Thrown about by the waves, finally his frail body came to a stop on the rosy beaches of the Starfall Isles.
Here he was picked up by a pair of Coatls returning from their migration, and they brought him to the original Sideris Clan.

With his first memories being full of terror and choking seafoam, Gyerdas has a crippling fear of water despite what his eyes might suggest. Rarity was finally able to coax the hatchling into a basin for bathing, but as an adult he still retains a phobia. Despite that unusual attribute, his divinations are as keen as would be expected from his heritage. He keeps a deck of tarot cards, bones for casting, and other seemingly random trinkets on his person at all times, and it's not unusual for him to take some out and read them in the middle of conversations or events. He'll often share what he sees in them, though not always, and the hatchlings of the clan use this for their own amusement as they get him to guess where they hid something or who will win a game. While some look upon him as trivializing the traditional gifts of the Water Flight by using divination for such unimportant things, Gyerdas doesn't mind. He dislikes knowing of major events and bad things before they happen, easily getting nervous and stressed with the pressure. He has refused to meet Brasse due to this, as he would be uncomfortable despite their shared ability to look into the future.

Gyerdas also keeps an unusual set of dice that he doesn't use for divination: multi-faceted and finely crafted dice with 20 sides. These are used in a complex game he has drawn many of his clanmates into playing with him, in which each maintains a particular character that takes part in a group adventure as per the rulebook Gyerdas has made. They keep up with their character's statistics, development, and actions that rely on these special dice throughout the adventure and many rainy days in Sideris-on-Riverbank are spent this way by Gyerdas and his companions.
