Being the child of a god isn't easy, especially when the other parent is mortal. During his early years, Michael had no idea that he was a demigod; his mother never made mention of it, and if his step-father ever found out, well... Michael was pretty certain the [insert unflattering explitive here] couldn't have known, because he certainly wouldn't have stayed quiet about it. As it was, he spent his formulative years vaguely aware that he was different, but never suspecting the true reason.

It was almost certainly stupid to run away from home, a mere child - and one unusually small for his age at that - but Michael's step-father was cruel and his half-siblings followed their father's footsteps, and he refused to take it any longer. The frequent visitor to his dreams, all bright and golden, didn't talk him out of it; instead he encouraged Michael's departure, and even gave him a direction to go in.

If there was something stupider than running away from home in the first place, it was probably following the directions of a dream visitor whose identity he didn't even know, but it was the best decision Michael ever made.

He learned who he was, who his father was (that the dream visitor was his father, the god of the sun and archery and many other things besides), and he found a new family. A better family, with siblings that treated him well even when he lashed out in fear. He took up the bow, a weapon that felt right in his grip from the first moment, and immersed himself in the skill he'd never known he had.

Michael became a warrior, a protector, and then a leader. Children of Apollo come in all shapes, sizes and natures, but even so Michael stood out with his quickfire temper, matched only by the speed of his draw, and his fierce nature. The abuse of his early years made it hard to let people in, but those he did eventually learn to let in - almost exclusively his half-siblings on the godly side - he guarded viciously.

If that meant standing on the front lines, his own body as a shield after everything else fell around him, then so be it.
