In the middle of her night cycle darkness had long fallen onto The Well crown. Silence filled the ship, the hums of her engines clear without her occupants moving about. Most were asleep. the few awake were getting ready to call it themselves.

Vervain wished to join those asleep as she stared at the glowing 'stars' she stuck onto her ceiling. Despite the softness of her bedding, the late hour and her busy day, sleep was evading her. Her mind going back to the time before she lived on the starship. She shifted before she decided to give up on sleep. Reaching a clawed hand to the sky she could feel her muscles pull the scar tissue on her chest. The cold outside her pile of blankets made Vervain want to go back. She knew if she did she would just be in the same spot as before.

Growing a mushroom on her hand for light she found her guitar. Thankfully it was still in tune from her last session.

She didn't know how long she played before her eyes got too heavy


On stage known as Valance, Vervain is the Well Crown's musician. Their music can be often heard in the halls of the star ship when they aren't sleeping. Living with a body overrun by supernatural fungi is exhausting, especially when living in a starship where conditions for plants can hardly be met in living areas.

They still try to bring energy into the ship by sharing music with their crew mates. While in current times they are a favorite among the pirates, their presence wasn't so welcome. When they first joined the crew of pirates it wasn't by choice on anyone's part.

On their home planet they were a part of a Circus. Being a hybrid between a Ghoul (a common species in their home sector) and a human caused them some minor health issues during their life. None of that stopped them.

They were well loved by their family, troupe and the people they performed for. Things were working out well until an ancient god began taking over their planet by turning it into a giant forest.

In the chaos of escaping, Vain got caught up in a fleeing crew of pirates and they somehow ended up aboard their ship. Some viewed them as a security risk while others had concern about food supply, as Vain wasn't in the resource calculations.

The crew couldn't exactly drop them back at their home. That would be too cruel for the pirates. No one knew if the planet was even habitable. When they fell ill all plans to leave them somewhere came to a stop.

As it turned out the god corrupted them tuning them into an entity much like them.

Being a lesser god hasn't been a fun ride. They are caught between mourning their home and learning how to deal with their new powers and the issues the state of their body is causing them.


Vain was always a performer at heart. Being adaptive and easily going with the flow. They contribute that part of themself to how they made it that far.

Much like others in their crew they have branched out from the pirate life while searching for something that could make them normal again. They have found two wandering performers and formed a small group with them. Their tricks are unique as they were designed for humanoids. It has taken a fair share of trial and error for them to recreate them in their large dragon form. They are starting to make a name for themself with their skilled tricks and elberate costumes.

While Vain is referred to solely as the ship's musician, they have a long list of jobs on the ship. Most are light jobs that aren't too rough on their body. Their secondary role is a gardener. They can keep plants alive better than every other crew members who have held the job prior.

They often help in the galley or does house keeping of common areas. Prior to Pen joining the crew they helped the others with Quarter Master duties, taking on more than the others to make up for the fact they can't do much to contribute to raids. Despite someone officially filling the role they still help.

While outside of the ship they often join Kat in finding places to hide out. since they can actually blend in with more human appearing populations and

They also preform for money so the crew can have an easy way to get supplies and can mimic it. Depite being nice they are still a pirate. If it means their crew

Notes+triva

-Has markings that look like ferns on their chest
-their stage name is the name for the short curtain that is hung in front of the main curtain in a theatre
-I normally hate the f tundra pose but they rock it.
-They are the closest to Oberon as he was the one who helped them recover, the ship not having a proper medic at the time.
-Since they aren't actually a tundra they eat seafood and meat in addition to plants, horrifying everyone who knows about tundra's diet. They do draw the line at bugs. Having a crewmate who is a humanoid dragonfly doesn't make bugs appeasing
-Their eye color has no meaning. They have no fire magic, only their skills from Prior to their eyes becoming dark in their normal form they had orange eyes



Carnival of Chaos (alt story)

Since it seems their crew's stay on this dragon run planet is going to last a long while Vervain wanted to branch out from the ship and the pirate life. Just playing music had been fun for the pirate but they were missing the performing aspect of things. Sorneth had no shortage of troupes they could join. They quickly joined the Carnival of Chaos falling in love with the energy of the place.


Valance's specialty is music and balance acts. They can hop up on a unicycle, play an instrument at the same time with no struggle. They can switch out the instrument for an assortment of items to juggle. One of their best tricks is to have the cycle on the unstable surface and perform tricks like that.
Since they discovered they can't really die the tricks they perform have increased in danger and in dramatics.

Where they used to perform on surfaces a few additional feet off the ground they have moved to tight ropes and other high and narrow places. Knives and other sharp objects have joined their juggling routines. They have been adding aerobatics to their tricks as well. While their powers can make their acts much easier they refuse to use them outside of emergencies.

They can also do tricks using a Cyr wheel and Lyra though they are not as skilled, this is more of a hobby than anything.

While they are performing they are a sight to behold. Growing the most decorative mushrooms over their body and wearing clothing made of iridescent fabric.

In their off time they either sleep, play music on the side or use their powers to grow mushrooms that they sell at a cart. Being under Vain's control they can't do much besides glow. (they absolutely refuse to let them spread) Though being an array of colors not found in the tangled wood or anywhere, they are quite the hit. The money made there goes to their crew and them self. Treasure and gems are made of materials deemed universally valuable.

Their time with a group of pirates had given them skills that contribute to the chaos of the Carnival. Used to keeping their head down, they can quickly make them self blend into crowds something that is quite useful. They often play small pranks on their fellow troupe though these are not the most extreme. They are in the habit of keeping things at a level that their captain wouldn't get mad about.

Since their arrival visitors have been reporting things going missing. Are they responsible? Perhaps. Or it might be the fault of their friends
