It happened the day after he was hatched. Everyone always told him it was just a weird unfortunate coincidence, but he knew better. His parents didn't want him, they didn't care about him at all. They were called to serve a 'higher cause' but Serpent would never believe this. He knew deep down they had run off together, to get as far away from him as they possibly could. Start a new life, maybe have more hatchlings they would actually care about, completely forget he existed. Needless to say after this, he had serious trust issues. He grew up on his own from such a young age, he never got to experience true childhood. Which resulted in him being the very laid back dragon he is today. After taking shelter in a random town for a few weeks, he met a girl. He thought maybe she was different, maybe she truly cared about him. Maybe she would be the first to stick around in his life. Wrong. They had a beautiful daughter together, Metztli, and she abandoned them both a day later, just like his parents had done to him. He knew right when he first saw his daughter that he would dedicate his life to making sure Metztli had the best childhood as possible. He didn't want her to know the pain of someone you love not caring about you at all. He wanted her to have a chance to be young and wild. He wanted nothing more than for her to have a good life. They stayed at another random town nobody cared about, filled with people who were friendly in passing but would talk bad about you behind your back two seconds later. The only good thing about this town was the local diner. Amazing food, nice staff, cute scenery. That's when Serpent and Metztli overheard a couple talking about a small village, hidden away in the shadows, called Blackhaven Elkmire. They had no real reason to be staying in this town, so they packed their stuff up that night and hit the road. It took a few days but they arrived and were greeted with the warmest welcome they've ever experienced. After settling in, getting to know the others in the village, learning the ways and unwritten rules, Metztli and Serpent eventually opened their own market. Well, market isn't quite the right term. Since Elkmire is all about helping and there is no currency, everything is free. People know not to be greedy and to only take what is truly needed. It took a couple years, but Serpent is finally on the path to getting over his severe trust issues. He has started opening up more and more with each passing day and Metztli is proud of the dragon he has become. They both agree that Elkmire is the best thing that has ever happened to them. |
