Biography

POSEIDON — "I will remember every second."
In Ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon is the god of the sea (and generally, of water), storms, earthquakes, and horses. He is the brother of Zeus and Hades, the gods of the sky and underworld respectively. Poseidon has been said to often take the form of a horse. The reason behind his title of the god of earthquakes is due to the ancient Greek's belief that earthquakes were caused by rocks being eroded away by the sea.


— It is said that Poseidon's behavior made him look and act like a violent, generally grumpy, and ill-tempered god. However, he has helped the people during the Trojan War, so maybe he has some sympathy in him? Who would know, anyway? (Perhaps the earth below us remembers, as it quakes and the seas tremble and waves sputter as they mutter his name.)


Etymology
The origins of the name "Poseidon" are unclear. One theory breaks it down into an element meaning "husband" or "lord" (Greek πόσις (posis), from PIE -pótis) and another element meaning "earth" (δᾶ (da), Doric for γῆ (gē)), producing something like lord or spouse of Da, i.e. of the earth; this would link him with Demeter, "Earth-mother". However, it is quite impossible to prove such theory.
