GEN 1 PARTIAL PALINDROME ID

Ooh, partial palindrome ID! Very nice :D Named after the Japanese name for Dunsparce (not a fandragon)! I gave him a Planesrunner because Naturecord said he looked like a Wandering Trader.

I scattered him a few times and he looks v handsome with Pastel eyes all the same. Reminds me a little more of the snake-y depictions of dragons (so more like a coatl lol). He's kinda...really expensive though.

UP TO TRICKS

You wheel along from place to place
As errant as the wind
Your pockets are full of coins and gems
And many a time you've sinned.

A forked tongue spreads such honeyed words
Of the many wares you sell
Yet underneath, the vinegar sits
And hides from flies so well.

The trinkets gleam and glint and shine
Made to dazzle unwary eyes
But, like a gaudy costume shop
It's all a pack of lies.

They're cheaply made, half broken too
The sparkles were a fake!
And before the clients are aware
Retreat is the choice you make.

Translation: 'hammer child'

Alternate Names: Nozuchi, Bachihebi, and many other regional names

Habitat: Fields

Diet: Insects, frogs, and mice; also fond of sake

Appearance: Tsuchinoko are short, stumpy, snake-like yōkai. Their body shape resembles a hammer or a mallet head with no handle. They range in size from thirty to eighty centimeters long. Their scaly skin is speckled in various earth tones, and they have light-colored bellies. Their viper-like fangs carry a deadly venom. Unlike snakes, tsuchinoko have eyelids. Due to their shape and color they are often said to resemble beer bottles.

Behavior: Tsuchinoko are found throughout Japan. They are active during the day from spring through fall, and hibernate through the winter. They make their nests in holes along wooded riverbanks. They give off a call which sounds like “chee,” and they snore when they sleep.

Tsuchinoko feed on insects when they are young, and frogs and mice as they grow larger. There are occasional reports of them eating larger animals like cats or dogs. They can eat vast quantities of food for their small size. They are also quite fond of sake. They are attracted to the smell of miso, dried squid, and burning hair.

Despite their awkward shape, tsuchinoko are extremely nimble. They can move about like an inchworm, but they are best known for their habit of rolling and tumbling about. They can roll sideways like a log, or tumble vertically from tip-to-tail. They can also swallow their tail–making their body into a ring–and roll like a wheel. Tsuchinoko are great jumpers as well. By some estimates, they can jump from two to five meters.
Origin: Creatures resembling tsuchinoko have been part of Japanese folklore since prehistoric times. Jomon period pottery and stone tools with motifs resembling stumpy snakes have been discovered. During the Edo Period, a number of venomous, rolling, snake-like yōkai–such as the nozuchi and tsuchi korobi–were recorded in folkloric encyclopedias.

Tsuchinoko became a national sensation during the 1970’s, when a number of sightings and supposed live captures of tsuchinoko were reported. This sparked a “tsuchinoko boom,” and people all over the country began hunting for tsuchinoko. An explosion of eyewitness accounts, blurry photographs, and talk show specials cemented tsuchinoko as a household term. Since then, it has remained an extremely popular subject among cryptozoologists, with monetary rewards occasionally offered to anyone able to produce a photograph or a physical specimen.

Tsuchinoko are known by many regional names, such as bachihebi, dotenko, inokohebi, korohebi, tatekurikaeshi, tsuchinbo, tsuchihebi, and so on. They are also sometimes considered to be identical to the yōkai nozuchi or tsuchi korobi–although others say that they are separate creatures.

Nokocchi slyly walked behind a group of dragons, exploring his temporary stop excitedly like tourists. "Well hello dear travellers! May I interest you in some of my items for sale?" He yelled, grabbing the attention of the startled group of dragons.

"You see, I got in a new batch of items, fresh, by the way, and they are all in great condition. Oh? I hear you don't worry, I have many things for sale, so many different kinds of varieties of things you might even forget the very purpose of your journey." He said with a grin, and grabbing the group and pushing them next to his cart of things.

He cleared his throat dramatically, then spoke "So, not only am I the greatest travelling salesman ever, but I am also indeed a magician." He said with one eyebrow raised, he then walked around them in a circle looking like a hunter examining its prey. He reached his hand and grabbed something from a satchel one of the dragons had slyly, and quickly put it into his bag without them noticing. "Buy two of these cool trinkets, and get another one for free." He spoke quietly, leaning in his ear to one specific dragon in the group.

"Ooh! That's a cool deal!" Her eyes sparkled as she beamed in excitement, she slapped some treasure into his already stretched out hand and grabbed two trinkets from his cart, "And now the free one?" She said practically jumping up and down. "Yes, yes. Patience is key, dear traveller. Let me get it!" He said charmingly, he went next to his cart took a trinket, then slipped next to one of the other dragons, "Hello sir, your friend over there wants this trinket a ton. Would you care to pay for it since she's lost her treasure, apparently?" Nokocchi said, leaning against a fence.

The dragon raised his eyebrow, "Sure... How much?" He said, "Not too much. 500 treasure, should be it." Nokocchi said quickly. The dragon gave the treasure to him, and the sides of Nokocchi's mouth had tugged so far into a smile he looked like the Grinch. He smiled and looked back to the dragon quickly, "Thank you! I will give this trinket to your friend now, good day." He said, and quickly ran over back to the girl, and handed her the trinket. "Here you go, enjoy your stay here, and you are one smart customer for buying with this deal!" He winked to her, and watched as the group walked away from his cart.

The warm smile on his face disappeared as soon as the group walked quite far away, and soon his sly grin returned, as he counted the treasure in his palm, clearly happy to have scammed another batch of customers.
