Amongst the birdfolk, there are only few topics that can interrupt any birdfolk midway through a song; the sight of a faded birdfolk. For their pride and joy are the bright and colorful feathers that adorn them, they writhe and sneer in disgust at a dragon born without such joyful blessings; a common belief was even that faded birdfolk were cursed and riddled with diseases. Nero was unfortunately a target of this scrutiny in his flock with his ink black feathers that left an ugly stain in a sky of color. While young, the other hatchlings would always pick and pull at his feathers, to such a horrid extent that most of his feathers, bar his tail ones for flying, are now permanently gone. The adults would usually turn a blind eye, fearful of Nero and whatever taboos hover around him. One night though, as Nero curled up in a tree branch isolated from most of their flock did the hatchlings try their worst prank on him. Nero woke up to a scalding heat that seemed to burn through his fur and scales, a boiling concoction of wax. The hatchlings continued to jeer as they showered him with the colorful feathers Nero lacked, crudely sticking onto the wax. Nero, sobbing, managed to get away from his perpetrators and was later taken in by a clan of assassins by the name of Liege. His resentment towards his flock grew and as he grew up into a formidable assassin, Nero vowed vengeance on every single dragon that might be even vaguely related to his former flock.
