The river turns deftly, a narrow bed curling possessively around the hillock and its grasses turned brown-gold by autumn winds. A splash, a fish flitting to the surface, and the light refracts into a thousand colors and none at all. The memory is shattered, and left behind is the failings of the present; the water stained, sluggish, the hills bare of their rightful harvest in favor of a bloody reaping. ྿ In order to dream implies that the dreamer must be asleep, that reality has folded away and been filtered through the unconscious mind into something fantastic and ethereal. And, indeed, this is the case for most dreams, which will be forgotten come waking when the logical mind cannot reconcile fancy with reality.
