Despite his eventual fall from grace, Vale (VAYL) was once the pampered progeny of Plague clan royalty -- a clan scorned far and wide for its indolence and pride, forsaking their deity's directive to prove their worthiness in death-battle by sequestering themselves into a life of hedonism. They rarely condescended to mingle with their Plague Flight compatriots, thinking them barbaric, gauche, and thick-skulled. As the clan leaders' only son, Vale was spoiled mercilessly and disciplined little; when he didn't get his way, the young dragon was prone to retaliating with sullen and peevish fits. When a handsome stranger arrived at the outskirts of the clan's territory one day, it took only a pinch of sweet-talking and flattery to draw him out long enough to pass a blight -- one of the many diseases they had all been so fervently avoiding -- onto the unknowing princeling. It incubated inside him until it erupted forth one night in the form of an unslakable thirst for blood. By the time Vale came to, his entire clan was a deceased tangle at his feet.

With no notion of what might cure this diabolical ailment nor any real experience taking care of himself, he fled into Arcane Flight territory with his tail tucked firmly between his legs. In lieu of a cure, Vale relies heavily on the blood of other dragons to stave off the effects of his illness; being a natural coward, this usually involves begging it off of those who are larger than him and thus less likely to miss it. Presently he spends most of his days flounced across a divan feeling sorry for himself, ineffectually plotting his revenge.

"Have you the slightest idea of who I am? What my father is capable of? Learn to not speak to your betters out of turn, worm...!"
