some people have tested zenuda's seemingly unbreakable patience. you can cut in front of him in line and he will ask the person behind him if they would like to move in front of him, too. you can mispronounce his name and he'd just start going by that. (he went to a huge, career-altering conference and introduced himself as "zebuna", because that was what was on his nametag. his friends had to make a formal correction for him later that day). if he were ever in a physical altercation, he'd probably recommend some kind of group therapy. even worse, it would probably work. he's very sweet.
however, the moment jack starts speaking, some say it often begins with wrestling, and ends with someone getting bitten. and it's usually zenuda. zenuda is an alien worm with some very sharp teeth. jack's a human, but he's not above biting either. jack's missing half of his pinky finger from some unknown injury long ago. neither of them really like to talk about it.
some say he's like this because he grew up with a fully unmedicated jack, which contributed to a lifetime of inner tranquility and understanding. this scares some people, because modern jack is still feral, and what could he have possibly been like as a teenager? they say, zenuda, we caught jack siphoning out something from chemical disposal bin with a plastic straw. should we stop him? and zenuda just says, without looking up, don't let him drink anything. and jack comes back a few minutes later because somehow he made homemade fireworks, what the hell. zenuda is completely unphased by this. he lives with him. he's seen worse. (jack sets them off in the lobby of the sheriff's office. he is the sheriff.)
when asked why he still puts up with him, zenuda, offended, always reminds them that he loves him like a brother, and it's true.

he's very proud of it. zenuda, who is at least 10 feet tall, hid it on top of the highest cabinet in their 10-foot-worm-sized house so jack couldn't find it again. jack found it the next day. he wasn't even looking for it. he was just up there.
