Biography
January, Fallen London
Moonlight Nix
By moonlight, some of these Drowned Spirits appear above the water, skimming above the waves. It is only in the light of the moon that their skeletons appear more vivid, more haunting, with streaks of the ocean hanging between them and giving an impression of their former body.
What is most haunting is the voice of this Drowned variant. Carrying over the water for miles, it is like a lullaby that lures dragons towards them. When a dragon gets closer, the sounds are tinged with a coarse edge from time to time. Only when a dragon sees the Drowned Spirit or is within its reach does its voice turn into a chilling screech, signaling it is too late for the victim to escape. Most of those that survive encounters with them were saved by the breaking dawn, as sunlight is their bane.
While unclear exactly what gives this variant its malicious intentions, it's thought to be the result of murder by drowning. It appears they seek those from their prior life, especially killers or perhaps a loved one. Whatever the case for their existence, it is best to steer clear of these vengeful spirits. If you hear a song across the waters on a full moon night, retreat from the waves. These dragons should be avoided... if one can even call them dragons.
