It's been almost a year, I still miss you everyday. So much. I remember the night i brought you home, you were so incredible tiny I could hold you in one hand. All the squaky toys noises scared you, but you loved to play with plushies and you were so gentle for a puppy. I tried to teach you to walk on a leash, but you would not move your tiny butt not matter what, not even treats could convince you. But the moment I let you go free and you followed me everywhere... I will never forget. You quickly learned when to stop, walk close to me and when you could go explore freely. You trusted me with all your big fluffy heart, and i knew i could trust you too.
You would always lay besides my bed, or on the couch, poking me with your snout to give you bellyrubs whenever I was with you. I remember the times you picked up a stick and happily ran, carrying it in your month, and then you bumped into our door because the stick would not fit. How you would get scared during thunder storms and scratch my room's door to let you in. When we went out on vacations and let you in a dog daycare they praised you for being such a good behaved girl, and you were, always eating and doing things in a delicate, polite way.
You never barked at anything or chased anything but cats. Sometimes i even wondered if you were a dog (and still do) But I guess you just were a very special girl. Though I swear your eyes had the brainwashing power to get any treat from us.
Time passed in the blink of an eye and even though you were eleven years old, people got surprised when asking me your age, because they thought you were still two or three. You were loving and full or energy...
People told me im not to blame, but I still feel like I failed you, I should have seen the signs before, that something was wrong. I tried to do everything I could to help with your diabetes, we even managed to get your sugar level stable but... it was too late, too much for your kidney. In a matter of a week I saw the light abandoning your little eyes. I knew the end was near and i wished nothing more that give you all the food you ever wanted, but you wouldn't eat or move, so i slept with you these last days. You were in so much pain... I'm sorry i could not protect you.
I hope you can forgive me, that wherever you are, you get all the food and bellyrubs you deserve, I know there is no pain anymore, you are free my little angel. I hope you knew how much I really loved you, how much you meant to me, that I was blessed to have a friend like you.
You were more than just a pet, you were part of me and my family
I hope we will meet again someday...
And go on a walk together like we used to.
