Ryta's situation is one I don't know if I can actually write out in-depth here because I have no idea if it oversteps any unspoken rules on how dark a story can get!
But to step around most of the details and just get to the main concept, Ryta was born at the same time both of her parents died. Both parents' souls then tried to possess Ryta herself, but since ghosts can't do that, it wouldn't work - however, since two tried at the same time and did so... rather violently, it left them kinda. Stuck with her. For better or for worse.
Their presence is very small, and Ryta only rarely hears or feels them, but she does know the um. The broader reasons for all of this. To say lightly.
And since birth, she has been stuck constantly sobbing. She's capable of holding conversations, and can "calm down" to an extent, but no matter what she does... there will always be tears. Constantly. Shuddery breaths, shivering, and sniffling often accompanies it.
