There was a tradition in Teril's family that they were working to create a long, proud line of Piebald/Paint Wildclaws. Teril figured, fairly young, though, that it couldn''t have been that important. His Uncle Orclactic was mated to a Spiral, after all. His brother Xalex was mated to a Pearlcatcher, his two sisters were lesbians, and Vartekoi was apparently never going to have a mate. His parents worried that he'd feel pressured to follow tradition, but he made it clear that he wasn't concerned. "No one's gotten in trouble for not doing it. I'm not worried, so you two shouldn't be either. I'm gonna meet someone some day, it's just gonna feel right, and what they look like doesn't matter." It was that conversation that led him to properly coming out, not that he really knew it, or that it was really necessary. Queer dragons were a norm anyway.

He met Veransa in a tavern in the Reedcleft Ascent. They hit it off, spent some time traveling the Windswept Plateau, getting to know each other before she agreed to become his mate. They returned to the Blacksand Annex, and she was welcomed into the clan with open wings.
