When a feudal town is overrun by bandits in an attempt to assassinate the local lord, one guard only manages to rescue the town's tailor. The town is left in ruins, but the two come across colored scraps of fabric tied in strategic places. Messages, the guard explains to the tailor, that say the rest of the guard were able to protect the lord and escape with some villagers. Messages, the tailor realizes, that are difficult decode.

Together, they make their way to a hidden location to reunite with their people while attempting to uncover the truth of this failed assassination. The guard, trained in the art of violence for protection, keeps them safe from any rogues they find on their way.

The guard does not know the tailor is well-versed in this art as well, nor that the tailor carries daggers meant for the lord's throat.
