Daiyu was separated from her family and clan during an attack by a special type of beastclan called Infernum. She was found and nursed back to health by Siena, healer of Clan Nereid. At first, she swore fealty to Siena for saving her life, swearing to protect her and assist in day-to-day chores that required a little more muscle than Siena was able to give. Now, however, enough time has passed that it's clear: the two have grown quite fond of each other.

When Siena fell in love with Caden, Daiyu was heartbroken. They remained close friends, but Daiyu withdrew further into her fighting and training, until one day she came across the strange Gaoler named Khaz. Now she can't get rid of Khaz, who follows her around like a puppy, proclaiming his affection for her to anyone who will listen. She's tried to tell him that they can't even mate, but that hasn't stopped him yet. She also doesn't actually seem to mind that much...

Daiyu, as with the rest of her clan, is incapable of using magic herself. As a trade-off, she can instead see the flow of magic in others and stop it with a strike to just the right spot. It makes her an especially deadly warrior against enemies who she describes as "using their magic as a crutch."
