A dragon who has seemed scary to others since he was young, Hemlock never had friends. He became a monster, angry and dangerous all the time. When he was able to take his anger out on creatures when he joined the Coliseum team, he calmed down around other dragons a bit, and even befriended one of his teammates, Cynder. However, for a long time he hated their third teammate, Lodore, because Lodore was young, impatient, frisky, weaker than the rest of the team, and, a light element. After a lot of battles and Lodore rescuing Hemlock a few times, they became close. Hemlock became Lodore's mentor, and they remain on the Coliseum team together to this day.
Hemlock took on a mate only once, but when she and his dragonets were sold away from him, he vowed never to fall in love again. Daybreak stays near him always, the Familiar that was once bonded with Hemlock's lost lover. However, one day, he fell in love for one final time.
When Alluvial first met Hemlock, he would hardly even look at her. However, this other Gaoler fascinated her. She kept bothering him, asking questions and sharing her opinions. He would often get mad and push her away, but after a couple of weeks of the young Gaoler bothering him, Hemlock finally gave in and started listening to her. He found her world views interesting and shocking, and he often asks her questions and listens hard to her answers. He is trying to be more like her, looking at the world with optimism and hope, and looking at the little things. Hemlock was the one to ask Alluvial to be his mate, and she accepted happily, telling him for the first time that being his mate had been all she wanted from the day they first met.
